Here are the ESPN.com early rankings of the Pac 12 in football next year. Overall I would have to say this is a fair ranking with the way the season ended this year. The only one I do not get is putting Washington above the Utes. Washington was a middle of the road Pac 10 team this year with a senior QB. I would have to move the Utes up one more spot, maybe two considering how erratic Arizona is, but at the same time, no throwing stones if you live in a glass house right?
Here are my WAY to early rankings thus far -
#1 - Oregon - they return just a ton of talent on the offensive side of the ball. I think they has some issues to address on D but no one will stop them until at least the Pac 12 title game.
#2 - Stanford - I worry about them because they are now going through a transition, but there is no denying Andrew Luck is a beast and can carry them to 10+ wins.
#3 - USC - The Trojans still have talent everywhere. Especially with a returning QB that is now pretty seasoned. Defense is still shaky.
#4 (tie) Utah / Arizona - There are so many wild cards with these two teams. I believe they both have a lot of great talent/speed. The question becomes consistent QB play. Jordan Wynn has to show that he is healthy and ready to lead again, while the offense reestablishes an identity. While Nick Foles really fizzled at the end of the season. Both teams may have the best two defenses in the conference next season.
#6 - Arizona State - they are returning 19 starters, but this was a 6-6 team in 2010. Let us also not forget that 2 of those wins came against FCS schools. They are a threat... but they also come to SLC.
#7 - Oregon St - I like Oregon States young talent. Losing Quizz Rogers is a huge loss but it always seems that the Beavs are in the mix late in the season.
# 8 - Cal - the constant Jekyll and Hyde team in the Pac 10. Who is the QB gonna be? Who is gonna be in the back field?
# 9 - Washington - A Utah nemesis, Coach Sark has them moving in the right direction, no question. He has to replace a 4 year starter at QB though. That will be a challenge.
# 10 - UCLA - too many holes to plug to be competitive right away in the conference - let alone the South division.
#11 - Washington State - Still have a long way to go for this set of Cougars.
# 12 - Colorado - Colorado just has issues. New coaching staff, new conference, tough division, no talent... way to much to overcome.
